Clifford D Engebretson

December 29, 1943 ~ May 20, 2020 (age 76)

Clifford (Cliff) Duane Engebretson died unexpectedly of a heart attack on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 76 years old.

Cliff was born on Wednesday, December 29, 1943, in Vinje, Iowa the son of Christopher and Dorothy (Johnson) Engebretson. He was a 1961 graduate of Lake Mills, IA High School.

Cliff was a hardworking man. He spent 40 years working at the Wilson’s Meat Packing Plant. After retiring, he made deliveries for Flowers by Curt and did maintenance at the Albert Lea Eagles Club. The past two years, you could find Cliff volunteering at DAE Liquor and assisting in any way he could. Cliff was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and truly enjoyed his faith community. He was a member of the Eagles Club for 55 years, where he was often seen kicking it up on the dance floor.

Cliff could always be found at one of his grandchildren’s sporting events, he was their biggest fan. He was also known for his wicked card playing skills. Cliff enjoyed spending many hours tending to his flower garden and yard. Having a green thumb he could revive almost any plant.

Cliff loved with his whole heart, his children and grandchildren always took first priority in his life. It seemed he was busy on the telephone the majority of most days, connecting, advising and sharing in the lives of his family and friends. He was the one everyone was drawn to; very social, great conversationalist, always smiling and had an infectious laugh.

Cliff has left a hole in our hearts that will never be filled. However, the memories of how much he gave to all of us will always be remembered and cherished.

Cliff will be greatly missed by his family; children: Darla (Ronald) Nemec of Eden Prairie, Paula (Todd) Bachtle of Albert Lea, Dayna (Jason) Saltou of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Thomas Nemec of St. Petersburg, FL, David Nemec of Eden Prairie, Dyllan Engebretson (Katie) and soon arriving great-grandson of Albert Lea, Mercedes Saltou of Albert Lea and Lexus Saltou of Albert Lea. He is also survived by siblings: Darlene (Richard) Jordahl of Albert Lea, Lorraine (William) Goette of Albert Lea, Mavis (Eldar) Westergaard of Oakland, Glorian (Gerald) Hamson of Bricelyn, Connie (Janice) Engebretson of Kiester, sister-in-law Linda Engebretson of Bricelyn, and many nieces and nephews.
