Funeral Services for Woodrow A. Johnson, 99 , of New Richland, Minnesota, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, at LeSueur River Lutheran Church, rural New Richland. The Reverend Brian Gegel will officiate. Interment will be in LeSueur River Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Friedrich- Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family. Woodrow died on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the New Richland Care Center, just over six months short of his 100th birthday.
He was born on November 30, 1916, in New Richland, Minnesota the son of Butler and Caia Johnson. Woodrow had three sisters, Gilma, Beatrice and Evelyn.
The family lived and farmed in Berlin Township, northeast of New Richland, where Woodrow attended rural school. Woodrow's father died when he was a young man and Woodrow took on the role of man of the house. He farmed and cared for his mother and sister Gilma throughout their lives. He was baptized and confirmed at LeSueur River Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member. Survived by nephews: Curtis Hanson, Dennis Hanson and Terris (Erlina) Hanson, Douglas Olson, niece Cheryl Davis, special cousin and neighbor Michael Johnson and his wife Valerie, and many other cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Gilma Johnson, Beatrice and her husband Chester Olson and Evelyn Hanson and her husband Mentor. Woodrow was an avid Vikings and Twins fan. He was loved and well respected within the community and will be remembered for his very quiet, humble, witty, yet non-assuming nature.
