Walter Johnson

Funeral services for Walter William Johnson of Albert Lea , MN , will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Mansfield Lutheran Church . Reverend Donald Rose will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5 until 7 PM at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Mansfield Cemetery . Military honors will be accorded by the Alden American Legion.

Mr. Johnson died Saturday, July 3, 2010 at St Johns Lutheran Home in Albert Lea , MN . He was 94 years of age.

Walter was born August 30, 1915 in Mansfield Township , MN , the son of Henry and Minnie (Jahnke) Johnson. He attended country school and was a lifetime member of the Mansfield Church where he had been baptized and confirmed.

Walter served his country during WW2 in the US Army as a tank crewman, spending time in Northern France and Central Europe .

After his service, Walter worked for Stampers in Wells, MN, and farmed with his father on the family farm. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed spending time at the Alden Senior Center . He was close to his nephews and enjoyed following their interests.

Walter is survived by his sister Doris Baer of Albert Lea, MN, sister in law Viola Johnson of Albert Lea, MN, nephews Jerome (Elaine) Baer, Dean (Beverly) Baer, Alan (Becky) Baer Lynn Baer, Gary (Lynn) Johnson, Dennis (Mary) Johnson, DeLane (Sue) Johnson and David Johnson. Also surviving are several great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Arthur Johnson, Carl (Irene) Johnson, brother-in-law:  Arthur Baer and nephew Gayle Johnson.
