Feb 9, 1947 — Jul 31, 2026

Ronald Palmer Holtan, age 79, of Albert Lea, MN passed peacefully on July 31st, 2026, surrounded by family after a courageous 22 year battle with cancer.

A funeral service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea on Thursday September 10th, 2026 at 1 PM, with an hour visitation beginning at 12 PM. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Albert Lea Moose Lodge.

Ronald was born February 9th, 1947, in Albert Lea, MN, to Palmer "Pete" and Amy (Kruger) Holtan. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1965 before attending Mankato State University, where he worked his way through college to earn his degree in 1974. On November 30, 1973, he married Pat Jacobson, beginning more than 52 years of marriage together.

Ron never met a stranger. Gifted with the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, he had a way of making people feel like old friends within minutes. Whether sharing one of his many stories, making those around him laugh, or simply enjoying good company, Ron was someone people genuinely loved to be around. His outgoing personality and genuine interest in others made him a natural in his real estate career, which began in 1977. He found great fulfillment helping others and built countless lasting friendships before retiring in 2022.

Ron and Pat spent more than 20 winters in Arizona, creating lifelong friendships and treasured memories. Together they also traveled extensively throughout the Caribbean and especially enjoyed exploring Europe on river cruises. An avid golfer and pickleball player, Ron embraced every opportunity to stay active and spend time with friends and family.

Above all else, Ron was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He rarely missed one of his grandchildren's sporting events, performances, or milestones, always making the effort to be there. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, whether on vacations, celebrating holidays, or simply being together. His love, encouragement, laughter, and unwavering presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents Palmer "Pete" and Amy Holtan; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Dorothy Jacobson.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; his daughters, Shannon Ostrowski and Amy (Wayd) Wangen; his grandchildren, Mya Wangen, Haley Wangen, Parker Wangen, and Josh Ostrowski; his brother, Rick (Lori) Holtan; his sister-in-law, Cindy Jacobson (Brian) Peters; his nephews, Andrew Holtan, Jake (Seth) Peters, and Ben (Erin) Peters; his great nephew, Graham Peters; along with many cousins and extended family members. In addition to his family, Ron leaves behind countless dear friends.

The family extends their gratitude to St. Croix Hospice for the exceptional care, comfort, and support they provided to Ron and his family during his final days.
