Ronald Hanna

April 15, 1941 — March 28, 2024

Albert Lea

Ronald Alvin Hanna was born in Forest City, Iowa on April 15, 1941, to proud parents Alvin and Lois Hanna of Woden, Iowa. He died at St Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN on March 28, 2024, at the age of 82.

Ron grew up in Woden, Iowa on the family farm that was homesteaded by his great-great grandfather. Ron attended the local country school through the 8th grade, then attended Woden High School graduating in 1959.

He married the love of his life, Arlis Kay Brown, on July 2, 1960, in Crystal Lake, IA. The young couple made their home in Forest City, Iowa for several years and later moved to Albert Lea, MN. Married for nearly 64 years, they raised three children and are proud grandparents of eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Ron was in the propane business as a young man. He also worked at the 66 station and Countryside Homes to support his family. Ron was recruited by Rich and Don Johnson, owners of a local business to start his career in HVAC. In 1988, Ron opened Hanna's Heating and Air Conditioning. He continued working and serving this community until his last days, consulting via the phone even from his hospital bed.

Ron believed in doing the right thing, helping people that needed help, and that actions meant more than words. As children, our father often did late night service calls and was on the roads in weather most would choose to avoid helping people without heat. Families with children and elderly people were often moved to the top of his list for heat calls.

In Ron's younger years, he enjoyed camping, shooting, motorcycle riding, and water skiing in the summer months and bowling and snowmobiling in the winter. He and Arlis parked a camper at Hickory Hills Campground in Twin Lakes, MN. He and Arlis enjoyed weekends at the camper for many years creating countless fond memories with the family.

Ron was preceded in death by his Parents, Alvin and Lois Hanna of Woden, Iowa.

He is survived by his Wife Arlis Hanna of Albert Lea;  daughter, Penny Hanna of Hot Springs, SD; son, Scott (Stacey) Hanna, of Albert Lea, MN; son, Tracy (Aymee) Hanna of Albert Lea, MN; granddaughter, Hannah (JP) Ham, of North Hollywood, CA; grandson, Pence Upchurch of Walla Walla, WA; granddaughter, Brieana (Bruce) Thimmesch, of Glenville, MN; granddaughter, Paige Hanna of Albert Lea, MN, grandson, Parker Hanna, of Albert Lea, MN; grandson, Zachary Hanna, of St Louis Park, MN; grandson, Spencer Hanna, of Albert Lea; grandson, Carter Hanna of Albert Lea; and great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Hanna of Glenville, MN; a sister, Vicki (Bob) Grant of Latimer, Iowa; his niece and nephew, as well as many extended family members.

My Father's passing has left an immense void in our family. He will be forever missed.
