Funeral services for Richard R. Hogstad of rural Albert Lea, MN, will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the East Freeborn Lutheran Church. Pastor Matt Griggs will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4 until 7 PM at the Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea area veterans groups.
Richard died Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center. He was 82 years of age.
Richard was born June 7, 1932 in Blue Earth, MN, the son of Sven and Lois (Zupp) Hogstad. He graduated from Grenada-Huntley High School and Austin Jr. College. On January 18, 1964 he was united in marriage to Marion Erickson in Osakis, MN.
Prior to moving to the Albert Lea area in 1973 he lived in Bloomington, MN. Richard was a member of the East Freeborn Lutheran Church. He had been employed by the Hormel Company in Minneapolis, MN, then in Austin, MN. He later owned and operated Dicks Small Engine Repair in Albert Lea. Richard served his country in the US Army stationed in Korea and was a member of the American Legion and the Eagles Club.
Richard loved to garden, tinker with engines, maintain his fruit trees and most of all spend time with the grandkids.
He is survived by his wife Marion of Albert Lea, MN, children Brian and his wife Kim Hogstad of Pine Island, MN, Gary Hogstad of Albert Lea, MN, Dean and his wife Shannon Hogstad of Ellendale, MN. Grandchildren include Krista, Allison, Jordan, Jared, Nathan, Samantha, Danielle and Jack.
Also surviving are sisters Gwen Wiegrefe of Amery, WI, Elaine Woods of Arlington, MN, Janet Adams of Ft Dodge, IA, Marian (Darwin) Meyer of Bloomington, MN, brothers Wayne (Robyn) Hogstad of Baldwin, WI, Ronald (Mary) Hogstad of Frost, MN, sisters-in-law Janet Hamnaman of Plymouth, MN, Shirley Werner of Omaha, NE, Judy (Dennis) Suedbeck of Monticello, MN, nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his Parents, brothers Fritz Werner and Jim Hogstad and an infant stillborn twin brother.
