Richard Eugene Bothun

Richard Bothun, age 90, passed away on August 7, 2026. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 14, 2026 at 11 AM at Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea.

Richard Eugene Bothun was born December 21, 1935 in Waterloo, Iowa to Edwin and Margaret Bothun. He grew up in Waterloo and graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1953. After high school, he attended University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, IA. On November 20, 1970, Richard was united in marriage to Joan Zeran in Galena, Illinois. The couple made their home in Waterloo until moving to Albert Lea in 1972. Richard worked as a salesman for various corrugated companies in Southern Minnesota until his retirement. During that time he served in the National Guard Army and Air Transport. After his retirement, Richard continued to live in Albert Lea until the time of his death.

In his free time, Richard enjoyed snowmobiling. traveling on his motorcycle and camping around the United States. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Richard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joan; son, Jason; sister-in-law, Evonne Jennett; Many cousins, nephews, nieces and dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his father, Edwin Bothun; mother, Margaret Bothun; grandparents, Henry and Elma Bothun, Philip and Olive Einwalter; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Clarice and Warner Zeran; brother-in-law, Ken Jennett.
