Richard Allen Berg, 78, a lifelong resident of Albert Lea, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at the St. John’s Lutheran Community- The Woodlands.
Born on March 26, 1947, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, Richard was a beloved son of the late Arthur and Lorraine (Perry) Berg and cherished husband to the late Judith (Boyer) Berg. Growing up in Albert Lea, Richard faced life with a quiet strength and an easy-going personality that endeared him to many. He dedicated a significant part of his working life to Ventura Foods in the food production industry, where he was known for his strong work ethic. Richard’s interests were simple yet fulfilling. He had a passion for rummage and estate sales, finding joy in the stories and treasures they held. He loved dining out and was always happy to share a meal with friends and family. An avid fan of Minnesota sports, Richard proudly collected memorabilia from the Vikings and Twins, displaying his devotion to his teams. He also enjoyed watching Western movies and appreciated the beauty of nature while camping with loved ones. Many cherished memories were created on his porch, where he sat peacefully, contemplating life. Richard was a reserved man, but he thrived in the company of others. He found joy in participating in Bingo and was a dedicated member of the Freeborn County Next Step Clubhouse and the Albert Lea Eagles Club FOE 2258. Above all, he loved his family deeply and treasuring moments spent with them.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Bonnerup Funeral & Cremation Services, with a visitation beginning at 1:00PM. Burial will be held at St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery in Albert Lea.
Those left to cherish Richard’s memory include his siblings, Darlene Kline, Paul Berg, and Scott Berg; brothers-in-law, Robert Boyer and family, Kevin Boyer and family, Scott Boyer and family; sister-in-law, Karen O’Bryne; nephews, Robert (Julie) Kline and Mike Kline; beloved friends, Lynn Stigney and Ron Luecht; and several extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Arthur and Lorraine Berg, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Judith A. (Boyer) Berg; a brother, Kenneth Berg; his father and mother-in-law; and several aunts and uncles.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff at St. Croix Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Richard.
