Muriel Hoeg

August 5, 1950 — December 11, 2025

Muriel (Lien) Hoeg, 75, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025 surrounded by the love and warmth of her family.

Muriel was born to Avis and Arthur Lien on August 5, 1950, in Hudson, South Dakota. Muriel's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to her family, her community, and her passions.

A proud graduate of Centerville High School in Centerville, SD, Muriel went on to attend South Dakota State University. During her time there, she met Robert “Bob” Hoeg, while working in the athletic department. The two went on to marry on September 15, 1975, in Centerville, SD. Together, they built a life rich with love, laughter, and a beautiful family.

Muriel worked as a library specialist for many years until her retirement in 2009. Her love for reading and teaching extended beyond the classroom as she served as head librarian at her church, sharing her passion for literature with others and enriching the community. An active member of Grace Lutheran Church, she played piano and taught Sunday School. She also volunteered at the Ecumenical Food Pantry, where her kindness shone brightly as she shared her caring spirit with those in need.

Muriel was an avid reader and found joy in tending to her flowers. A passionate SDSU Jack Rabbits fan and a devoted Minnesota Twins supporter, she delighted in attending games.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert, along with her sons, Mark Hoeg and Scott (Brenna) Hoeg; her treasured grandchildren, Emma, Kaylee, and Luke; her loving sisters, Martha (Bob) Longway and Mary Lien.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Avis (Ruch) Lien, and an infant grandchild, whose memory she carried in her heart. A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, with a visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. The service will be livestreamed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Muriel’s honor to the Ecumenical Food Pantry at First Presbyterian of Albert Lea, 308 Water St, Albert Lea, MN 56007.
