Michael Corey Johnson, 58, of New Richland, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024, at his home with his loving family by his side.
Born on October 14, 1966, in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Michael was the son of Kenneth and Barbara (Sautbine) Johnson. He grew up tapping into his creative spirit, attending art school in Minneapolis, where his passion for artistry began to flourish.
Michael dedicated his life to carpentry, working as a freelance carpenter in the Minneapolis area for many years. His craftsmanship was much like his artistic talents—intuitive, detailed, and filled with love. Whether composing short stories, crafting handmade books, or playing his guitar, Michael’s artistic flair was evident in everything he did. He was known for his culinary skills as well, with a particular love for baking bread and making homemade pasta.
In addition to his talents, Michael was a generous soul, always encouraging those around him to embrace life fully and "go for the gusto." He embodied joy, often standing out in his signature Hawaiian shirt at gatherings, proving to be the life of the party. An adventurer at heart, he traveled and lived in London for six months in his youth, making friends wherever he went, and later found peace and solace in gardening.
Though he referred to himself as the "accidental grandpa," Michael cherished every moment spent with his fiancé, Heidi, and her children and grandchildren. His bond with Heidi, which began in 2015 through a mutual friend, blossomed into nearly ten beautiful years filled with laughter, love, and unforgettable memories.
Those left to cherish Michael’s memory include his fiancé, Heidi Gardener, and her children, Briana Price, Rachael (Abe) Luna, Sara (Victor) Rosas, Robyn (Dylan) Davis; grandchildren, Nevaeh, Jasmine, Elizabeth, Hannah, Leon, Calum, Christopher, Giovanni, and Jadyn; and two beloved friends, Jimmy McBride and Sarah Long. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Barbara Johnson, and a brother, Kelly Johnson.
A celebration of Michael’s remarkable life will be held at a later date.
