Mary Ann Ohm, 91 went home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 14, 2026, she passed away at the New Richland Care Center, where she recently resided at due to a stroke. A memorial service will be held at Bonnerup Funeral Home at 10:30, Thursday, May 21. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 PM on Wednesday, May 20 at Bonnerup funeral home and for one hour prior to service on Thursday. Burial will be at Concordia Pickeral Lake Cemetery.
Mary was born August 10, 1934 in Fillmore County, Minnesota to William and Esther (Sydow) Scrabeck. Mary grew up on the farm, actually on numerous farms as the family moved several times. In her teen years and into her twenties she helped young mothers, taking care of the kids and with light house work, often staying with the families. This also included a stay in Indiana with her sister, Verna and family. Then in 1957 Mary went to work at Stampers, in Wells and also moving to Wells, staying with her sister in laws mother, she worked and lived there until 1966. During that time, Mary enjoyed taking bus trips with her friend Bertha. On October 21, 1966 Mary married the love of her life, Harold Ohm and became a housewife and soon to be mother when daughter Debra was born in October of 1967 and again when son, David was born in December of 1973. She loved her role as housewife and mother and often helped Harold with chores or driving tractor and raising her kids brought much joy to her. She later returned to babysitting for local families in the 1980's and finally retiring in 1999. Mary enjoyed going on many family vacations and later her and Harold would take off for a couple of days, a few times a year. Mary and Harold lived on the farm in rural Alden for 55 years, until November 2021 when Harold fell and then Mary moved in with Deb and lived with her until. recently. The later years she enjoyed doing word search puzzles and reading romance novels and of course had to watch the Price is Right. Mary's dream was to live in a new house and that dream was fulfilled in December 2023, when she and Deb moved into a brand new house back on the farm.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents, William and Esther, her parents-in-law, Christ and Marie, brothers, Laverne (Ruth) Scrabeck, Paul (Dorothy) Scrabeck, and John Scrabeck, sisters, Esther Scrabeck and Ruth Lyons, brothers-in-law, Earl Carter, Jim Weller, Albert (Grace) Ohm, sisters-in-law, Alma (Art) Richter and Marie (Harry) Richter.
Mary was survived by her daughter, Debra, of Alden, MN, and son, David of Alden, MN, she is also survived by sisters, Verna Scrabeck of Ocala FL and Carolyn Weller, of Alden, MN and a brother Charles (Kay) Scrabeck of Naselle, WA, brother-in-law, Vernon Lyons of Chicago, IL and sisters-in-law, Liliah Scrabeck of Mankato, MN and Dorothy (Nordean) Krueger of Albert Lea, MN. She was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the New Richland Care Center and Mayo Clinic Hospice for their care of Mary in her final days.
