Marti Wilson

Our beloved mother, Marti Wilson, died on February 23, at age 92. She will be buried at Saint Olaf Cemetery outside of New Richland, her birthplace. She was born in 1931 – and baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church as Shirley Martinson.

Marti was an accomplished woman and global citizen, who was born and raised in New Richland by her parents, Oscar and Winifred Martinson. She was baptized, confirmed and married there. She remained married to her husband, Dr. Howard Wilson, for 44 years, until his death in 1998. (She will be reunited with him at St. Olaf Cemetery.)

Marti was a beloved wife, mother, musician, teacher and therapist. After Howard’s death, she remained in Cambridge, England, to finish his comparative religions archive. She was a resident in Cambridge for more than 20 years. She returned to the United States in 2020 and passed away near her son, Scot, in Tucson, Arizona.

She received her bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College, and her master’s degree and ABD in psychology at the Adler Institute of Chicago. In her lifetime, Marti traveled to more than 50 countries. With her family, she lived in Scotland and England, and traveled around the world during Howard’s sabbaticals. Life was an adventure to her, and she touched many people’s lives along the way!

She is survived by three children – Scot, Martha and Eric – and their families.
