Marlene Johnsrud Vogelsang, nee Marlene Eunice Johnsrud, passed away suddenly at her home outside of Clarks Grove, Minnesota on Monday, September 7th, 2026. She was 75 years old. A memorial service will be held at Bonnerup Funeral and Cremation Services in Albert Lea, Minnesota on Tuesday, September 15th at 2:00 PM, with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.
Marlene was born at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minnesota on January 4th, 1951, the first child to Howard and Eunice (Skov) Johnsrud. She attended Albert Lea public schools, graduating from Albert Lea Senior High School, class of 1969. After graduation she went to school to become a medical laboratory technician and phlebotomist. She worked at various medical facilities and later taught those subjects at what is now South Central Technical College. She was married to Dennis Vogelsang in May of 1977. They later divorced, but maintained a friendly relationship, farming together on their properties outside of Clarks Grove.
Marlene was deeply devoted to family. She was always ready to help uncles and aunts, and was a wonderful caretaker and companion to our widowed mother, allowing Eunice to stay in the family home right up to her death.
Marlene's special gift was her love of animals. Cats, dogs, horses, sheep, goats, she loved them all and provided a loving home to many throughout her life. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, we would like to suggest donations in her name to the Humane Society of Freeborn County (freeborncountyhs.org/donate).
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Eunice Johnsrud, and her sister, Lorraine Alice Johnsrud. She is survived by her brother, Darrel (Marcia) Johnsrud; nieces, Rachel (Joe) Lahti, and Kirsten (Hayden) Skroch; nephew, Cory Johnsrud; great nieces, Brita and Elin Lahti; ex-husband, Dennis Vogelsang; and multiple cousins.
Thank you for your support and expressions of sympathy.
