Margaret Elizabeth Schultz, 97, of New Richland, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026, at the New Richland Care Center, with her family by her side.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, August 21, 2026, at All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland, with a visitation beginning at 9:00AM at the church. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in New Richland. The service will be livestreamed.
Born on October 18, 1928, in Waseca, MN, Margaret was a daughter of the late Henry and Sarah (Norton) Linnihan and was raised in Byron Township, on the shores of Trenton Lake. A 1945 graduate of Freeborn High School, Margaret embodied dedication and commitment throughout her life.
In her early years, Margaret worked at the café in New Richland, the Ethan Allen Grocery Store, and the State Bank of New Richland. On June 24, 1957, she married Norbert Schultz at All Saints Catholic Church in New Richland, where she had also been baptized and confirmed. Together, they built not only a family but also a thriving farm, demonstrating a true partnership in both work and life. Faith, family, and farming were at the heart of Margaret’s life.
When she wasn’t working alongside her husband on the farm, Margaret could often be found knitting, sewing, gardening, or canning. Her delicious baked goods and home-cooked meals brought great joy to her family and reflected the love she poured into those around her. She also appreciated a good outing, especially one that offered a little excitement and a chance to test her luck.
Those left to cherish Margaret’s memory include her husband of 69 years, Norbert Schultz; children, Mary (Rick) Bohlen, Lori (Doug) Meixell, Kate (Corky) Berdan, and Rick (Jackie) Schultz; grandchildren, Erin (Dave) Streefland, Emily (Jake) Zanon, Nate (Gabi) Meixell, Nick Meixell (Emma Pohlman), Jack Berdan (Alexa Hunter), Kari (Garrett) Wobst, Justin (Kara) Berdan, and Hallie Schultz; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Henry and Sarah Linnihan, Margaret was preceded in death by an infant daughter; a brother, Kenneth Linnihan; two sisters, Mary (Matt) Burns and Helen (Ambrose) Dulas; and a son-in-law, Phil Bartusek.
