Magdalen "Maggie" Marcella Judd

July 15, 1937 — May 15, 2024

Albert Lea

Magdalen Marcella (Miller) Judd, born on July 15, 1937, to Hubert and Catherina (Michels) Miller in Stacyville, IA, peacefully passed away on May 15, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran home in Albert Lea, MN, surrounded by her loving family.

Magdalen, affectionately known as "Maggie," faced early challenges in life after her father's untimely passing, eventually moving with her mother and siblings to Austin, Minnesota.  Maggie began her journey of hard work and dedication at a young age, taking on various roles within her community. It was in this close-knit community that she met Duane Judd, the boy next door, sparking a love that bloomed with nightly serenades from his front porch.  The couple married on January 13, 1962, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, MN, where they began building their life together, later moving to Albert Lea, MN, to raise their loving family. Maggie's dedication extended beyond her family as she worked for 13 years at Land O Lakes, a testament to her strong work ethic.

An adventurous soul, Maggie and Duane cherished their annual trips to the lake near Ely, Minnesota and relished their retirement winters in Mesa, Arizona. Despite her busy schedule, Maggie always made time for her friends, particularly Bev Head, with whom she volunteered and worked with and shared laughter and many long visits, along with other dear friends that met once a month for coffee.

A devout member of St. Theodore church, she diligently volunteered her time to assist in the kitchen and always helped those in need. Her nurturing nature extended to her lush garden, providing her family with delectable canned vegetables, especially her famous pickles.  She found joy in simple pleasures like reading romance novels, polka music, watching soap operas, and listening to the radio. Her love for her family knew no bounds, as evidenced by her winning the "Home for the Holidays" contest from KATE Radio that brought her daughter Teresa home for Christmas one year. Whenever she had the time, Maggie could be found entertaining herself at the casino or joining in on a game of bingo. Maggie enjoyed baking, her banana bread, potato fudge, scalloped corn, and baked beans graced the table at family gatherings and holiday dinners.  The cookie jar that donned her kitchen counter was always full of cookies for any of her visitors to enjoy.

Maggie's role as a loving grandmother was a treasure to her. She hosted slumber parties for her grandchildren, spoiling them with macaroni and cheese, movie nights, pancakes, and friendly games of Old Maid - creating cherished memories that will endure for generations.

Maggie will be lovingly remembered by her children, Teresa (Javier Tabarez) Judd of Mesa, AZ, David Judd of Owatonna, MN, Ruth (Miguel Garcia) Judd of Albert Lea, MN , John (Stacy) Judd of Albert Lea, MN, and Joann Oakland of Albert Lea, MN; grandchildren, Anthony (Tami) Charlton, Gonsalo (Randi) Tabares, Alexander (Katie) Tabares, Angela (Junior Sanchez) Judd, Tabitha Caballero, Miguel Garcia, Jessica (Ryan) Walters, Sara (Josh Schuler) Judd, Matthew Judd, Calob, Chloe, Chaz, Courtney, Mason, and Haley Oakland; great grandchildren, Katelynn and Chandler Charlton, Andre Judd, Castiel Sanchez, Logan and Landon Walters, Ganon and Axson Tabares, and Rhett Judd; sisters-in-law, MaryEllen Miller and Barbara (Ron) Huffman; brothers-in-law, James Judd and Mike Judd; along with many nieces and nephews.

Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Duane in 2015; son-in-law, Mark Oakland; siblings, Clarence (Magdalen) Miller, Victor (Marie) Miller, Ivan (Anna) Miller, Leo Miller, and MaryAnn (Eugene) Mayer; sisters-in-law, MaryAnn (John) Ruffins, Keith (Pete) Judd, and Wayne (Helen) Judd.
