Lucile died on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. She was 84.
Tootie was born on March 16, 1930, in Lake Mills, IA, the daughter of John and Clara(Jacobson)Bergstad. She grew up on a farm in Vinje, IA, and attended High School at Lake Mills. She married Wallace E. Lunning on July 18, 1953 in Albert Lea, and was a devoted wife over her and Wally's 50 years of marriage Tootie had a servant's heart. In caring for her father, John, her father-in-law, Buell, and providing a home for her brothers, Martin and Eddie, she shared her heart through serving. Tootie had a warrior's heart. Over the years she fought through many challenges, physical and emotional, with a warrior's courage.
Tootie had a fun-loving heart. Nothing brought her greater joy than visiting cousins over the 4th of July holiday in McHenry, ND, hosting family parties in her home with pool and shuffleboard "tournaments" in the basement, and hosting family fishing "expeditions" at the cabin on Battle Lake.
Tootie had a believer's heart. She was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. She was also a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Pickerel Lake, active in Ladies' Aid and as a sponsor for Luther League. Tootie had a mother's heart. Her deep faith was matched only by her deep devotion to her family. Whether she spoiled her son, Steven, or doted on her grandchildren: Philip, Julia, and Andrew, she loved without reservation or condition.
Tootie is survived by her son, Steven, and his wife, Lynn, of San Antonio, TX; her grandchildren: Philip, Julia (and Robert and great-grandson Henry) Hoover, and Andrew; sister, Laura Seifert of Elgin, IL, and many nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wallace, three sisters: Hazel (and James) O'Rourke, Ode (and Clifford) Hamson, Cora (and Leonard) Teigen, and brother-in-law Dale Seifert, five brothers: Benny, Joseph, Eddie, Carl, and Martin Bergstad, two nieces: Beverly Sprecher and Elaine Baer, and two nephews: Larry Hamson and Carl David Bergstad.
Lucile's family would like to offer a special word of thanks to the staff at Oak Park Place. The loving care you provided warmed Tootie's heart and always helped her feel at home. Thank you!
