Lois Jean Bailey

Lois Jean Bailey, age 97, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, June 18, at First Lutheran Church in Glenville with lunch to follow. Visitation will be held at the church one hour before the service.

Lois was born in Hayward, MN on December 28, 1928, to Harvey and Agnes (Jensen) Heegard. When she was a child, her family moved to Albert Lea where she and her five siblings grew up and received their education. Lois graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1947. In March of 1948, she was united in marriage to Roger Bailey. Because of his construction job, the couple lived many places before settling in Glenville where they raised their four children. Roger and Lois enjoyed many summers at their cabin in Nevis, MN and winters in Mesa, AZ. After Roger passed away in 2021, Lois continued living in Glenville until moving to Oak Park Place in Albert Lea in 2025.

Lois was a member of First Lutheran Church in Glenville. In her free time she enjoyed crafting, knitting, sewing, gardening, canning and visiting with her many friends. Her greatest love was her family followed closely by the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. She was proud of sharing adventures with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren even into her 90s.

Lois is survived by her four children: Rebecca (Lowell) Schuhmacher, Carol (Ken) Sherman, JoEllen Bailey (Andrea Dutcher), and Kevin Bailey (Ken Kieffer); seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Donna Bailey, and her brother-in-law, Howard Petersen.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her five siblings: Luverne (Mona) Heegard, Jeanette (Ellsworth) Godtland, Darrel (Shirley) Heegard, Delores Petersen, and Marilyn Amerson; her brother-in-law, Melvin Bailey; and her grandson Jesse Sherman.

The family is grateful to the staff at Oak Park Place, St.John’s Lutheran Community, and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care and support of Lois. Memorials may be directed to Glenville First Lutheran Church or the Greenwood Cemetery of Glenville.
