Laurel "Laurie" Long

Laurel Jean “Laurie” Long, 72, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Prairie Senior Cottages in New Richland, MN, surrounded by the love of her family.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Bonnerup Funeral & Cremation Services, with a visitation beginning at 10:00AM. The service will be livestreamed.

Born on February 23, 1954, in Albert Lea, Laurie was the daughter of the late Clarence “Slung” and Ruth (Neitzel) Schreiber. On April 8, 1978, she married Steven Long at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea. Together, they shared many wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.

Laurie was a hard worker with a creative spirit and a generous heart. She found great joy in quilting and sewing, using her talents to create beautiful mittens, quilts, and other handmade treasures for family and friends. She was always willing to use her time and talents to help others.

She cherished the time she spent with her family. Whether it was cheering on her favorite baseball and hockey player, watching her favorite cheerleader, or just sitting on the lake fishing. She was a devoted mother; Laurie loved her children passionately and took great pride in them. She was a wonderful cook and an excellent baker, and many family memories were made in the kitchen. She had a great sense of humor and a way of bringing laughter and warmth wherever she went.

Laurie also treasured family traditions, especially those surrounding the holidays. From cutting down the Christmas tree together to making special decorations, she understood the importance of creating traditions and memories that would carry on through the generations. She also loved getting together with all of the extended family and sharing laughter and tears, with Laurie there were always tears, happy and sad.

Above all, Laurie was someone who showed up for the people she loved. She generously gave her time, often helping before she was even asked. If someone needed her, she was there. Her kindness, creativity, humor, and unwavering devotion to her family made her a special presence in the lives of so many.

Those left to cherish Laurie’s memory include her husband of 48 years, Steven Long; children, Ryan Long, Melanie (Matt) Most; grandchildren, Ava Long and Cassie Most; a brother, Gary (Shannon) Schreiber; numerous nieces and nephews, several extended family members and countless friends.
