Funeral services for Larry Don VanRyswyk of Albert Lea, MN, will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea. Pastor Dwight Netzer will officiate. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 4 until 7 PM at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Larry died Friday, March 27, 2015 at the Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center. He was 72 years of age.
Larry was born December 30, 1942 in Albert Lea, MN, the son of Donald G. and Doris (Bremer) VanRyswyk. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1960, Austin Jr. College and Mankato State University in 1964. Larry taught Social Studies at Ashby High School from 1964 thru 1975. He returned to the family farm in Albert Lea where he farmed since 1976. Larry also sold seed for Producers Hybrids and ran a custom bulldozing service. Larry enjoyed driving school bus for many years.
He was a proud fourth generation farm family and a Century Farm since 1883. He enjoyed hunting, airplanes, bulldozers and music. He also was an active member of the NRA. His greatest enjoyment was time he spent with his kids and grandchildren.
Special times were spent with his buddies drinking coffee at Hardee's. His motto for life was "Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without!"
Larry is survived by his wife Connie of Albert Lea, MN, children Cheri and her husband John Hepler of Omaha, NE, Kurt and his wife Lynette VanRyswyk of Glenville, MN, Dirk and his wife Heather of Northwood, IA. Grandchildren include; Trent (Bethany) Hepler, Drew (Nicole) Hepler, Jordyn VanRyswyk (Fiancé Cody Leggett), Kalli VanRyswyk, Derek VanRyswyk, Taryn VanRyswyk and Dawson VanRyswyk. Siblings include Gary (Ethel) VanRyswyk of Sebring, FL, Lori (Rich) Rippentrop of Twin Lakes, MN. Aunts; Delores VanRyswyk, Marge Sippel, Darlene Dulitz, LaVonne (Lester) Beers. In-laws Elmer Sweet, Kathy Sweet, John (Rosa) Sweet, Cindy (Lavine) Petersen, Beth (Stephen) Smith. There are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Don and Doris VanRyswyk, father and mother in law Elmer Sweet, LaVon Sweet Brua and Marvin Brua and many aunts and uncles.
Memorials in lieu of flowers can be made to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association or the First Presbyterian Church.
