Larry Nelson

Larry Dean Nelson, age 83, passed away July 8, 2026. 

Larry entered the world on September 13, 1942, in Albert Lea, the beloved child of Maynard and Mary (Belshan) Nelson.

On September 12, 1973, Larry married Mary Stoner, and together they shared 37 years of marriage until Mary's passing in September 2010. Later, on June 9, 2018, Larry was united in marriage to Pauline Kohnke. Throughout his most recent years, Larry made his home at Thorne Crest, residing there until his passing.

Larry embraced life with enthusiasm, finding joy in traveling, hunting, fishing, and immersing himself in the beauty of the outdoors. Known for his sense of humor and his playful smirk, Larry delighted those around them with jokes and pranks. Yet, above all, Larry cherished time spent with family and friends, creating memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew them.

Larry is survived by his stepchildren, as well as an extended family of cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maynard and Mary (Belshan) Nelson, and brothers Dale, Lee, and Darrel Nelson and spouses, Mary Nelson and Pauline Nelson.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff at Mayo Clinic Hospice and Thorne Crest Retirement Community for their compassionate care. Larry’s memory will remain a treasured blessing, and they will be deeply missed by all who knew them.
