June Dorothy Holmen passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, at the New Richland Care Center, where she had dedicated many years of her life as a volunteer. Born on June 9, 1932, at the Reese Farm in Steele County, Minnesota, June was the daughter of Clarence and Dorothy Reese and a proud graduate of NRHEG High School.
June was baptized, confirmed, and married at the LeSueur River Lutheran Church in New Richland, where she was a member into her 70s. She then became a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waseca, where she served in their women’s group and taught Sunday School. June was committed not only to her faith but also to her community, serving as the leader of the Luther League, as well as Vice President and later President of the New Richland Senior Citizens.
For over two decades, June served as a Secretary at E.F. Johnson in Waseca, Minnesota, Birds Eye in Waseca for eight years, and spent twelve and a half years volunteering at the New Richland Care Center. June celebrated her well-deserved retirement on June 1, 1997.
In her personal life, June cherished spending time with family, holding dear memories of picnics, working alongside her father on the farm, and celebrating Christmas with her loved ones. She found immense joy in caring for her lawn and gardening with her family, as well as cooking, sewing, embroidery, and crochet. June's proudest accomplishments included watching her five children flourish and create families of their own, and she loved every moment she was able to spend with her children and grandchildren.
June is survived by her five children: Ellsworth (Pauline) Holmen, David Holmen, Paulette Purinton, Jerry Holmen, and Cindy (Phil) Beck. She leaves a legacy of love through her twelve grandchildren: Kasondra, Katrina, Karla, and Kyle Holmen, Derek, Brandon, and Megan Holmen, Joshua and Michael Purinton, and Kelsey, Marissa, and Jaci Beck; 25 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
June is preceded in death by her husband, Norman Holmen; her husband, Emmeth Swenson; her parents, Clarence and Dorothy Reese; her brother, LaVerne Reese; daughter-in-law, Terri Holmen; and son-in-law, Pat Purinton.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Monday, July 7th, 2025, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 309 6th St NE, Waseca, MN; visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Following services, June will be interred at LeSueur River Lutheran Cemetery, at 16650 250th Ave, New Richland, MN.
