Joan Anderson

A memorial gathering for Joan A. Anderson of Albert Lea, MN, will be held between 4 until 7 PM Friday, May 3, 2019 at the Bonnerup Funeral Service in Albert Lea, MN. Joan died Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at the Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater, MN. She was 78 years of age. Joan was born April 23, 1941 in St Peter, MN, the daughter of Earl O. and Mildetta M. (O’Hara) Shogren. She was a graduate of St Peter High School in 1959. She enrolled in a joint program at Gustavus College in St Peter, MN and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1964. She practiced nursing at St. Peter Hospital, was an instructor for nursing at St Joseph Hospital in St Paul, MN, taught for 5 years at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea and spent 28 years at Austin Community College (Riverland) teaching in the RN program. Joan was united in marriage to Theodore (Ted) F. Anderson on October 2, 1965 in St Peter, MN. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in St Peter and then Albert Lea, MN. Joan enjoyed reading, gardening, baking, walking, music and dance. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her five grandchildren. She was a member of the book club at Albert Lea library and volunteer at Sibley Elementary library. Joan is survived by her husband Ted of Albert Lea, MN, children Mark (Jane) Anderson of Woodbury, MN, Paul Anderson of Mendota Heights, MN, Beth (Tony) Englund of Lake Elmo, MN. Grandchildren include Sarah Anderson, Emily (Wes) Malherek, Ben Anderson, Jacob Wilder and Tess Wilder. Also surviving are in-laws Myron (Donna) Anderson of Coon Rapids, MN, Helen (Klaren) Alexander of Naples, FL, Cliff (Barb) Anderson of Blooming, MN, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bob (Karen) Shogren, mother-in-law and father-in-law Roy (Viola) Anderson.
