Funeral services for Jeanette R Stieler McIver of Albert Lea will be held at 10 AM Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Bonnerup Funeral Services. The Reverend Todd Walsh will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 9 to 10 AM. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery.
Jeanette died on Sunday, July 10, 2016, at the Thorne Crest Senior Living Community in Albert Lea. She was 99 years of age.
Jeanette was born February 12, 1917, in Crookston, MN, the daughter of Oscar A and Rose J (Clewett) Halvorsen. She graduated from Crookston High School in 1935 and from the University of North Dakota in 1939 with a BS in Commerce. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority.
After graduation, Jeanette worked as a buyer at Dayton's department store in Minneapolis. Later, she worked at the New England Furniture Company. She sold Whitney maple furniture and decorated model homes for the company.
Jeanette was united in marriage to Philip Stieler, DDS, in Seattle, WA on October 29, 1942. They resided in Medford, OR until his departure with the Army for the South Pacific in WWII. She returned to Minnesota to work in her father's store in Crookston. Philip passed away in 1989. Jeanette was married to Lawrence McIver, DDS, on June 22, 1996, in Albert Lea. They spent many of their winters in Sun City West, AZ. Larry passed away in 2011.
Jeanette was an active member of the United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday school, served on the communion committee, the administrative board, and was an active member of Grace Circle. Jeanette was past president of the SE District Dental Auxiliary. She was a member and served on the board of AAUW. She continued to support the Alumni Association of Delta Gamma sorority. She was a member of Civic Music for years. Jeanette loved playing bridge, antiquing, shopping, decorating, traveling and dancing. She especially enjoyed her time with family.
Jeanette is survived by daughter Joan (John) Wolf of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, son Jim (Christine) Stieler of Littleton, CO, grandchildren Melissa (Brian) McMahon, Jill (David) Brannon, Jessica Stieler, Corrine (Chase) Pearl, Kent (Danielle) Stieler and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by stepchildren, Barbara (Burt) Booth of Burnsville, MN and Stephen McIver of Chandler, AZ; step grandchildren Kory (Brandi) McIver, Karyn (Daniel) Hubbard, Riki (Jeff) Carlston, Denise (Erik) Swenson, and Jodi (Brad) McMahan and ten step great grandchildren. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Rose Halvorsen, sister Catherine (Loren) Aaker, brother Norman (Betty) Halvorsen, brother Paul (Albany) Halvorsen, and brother Oscar Halvorsen.
