James Carl Hansen

James Carl “Hanny” Hansen, 71, of Glenville, died at his home on January 9, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with diabetes.

Born on February 4, 1951, in St. Paul, he was the son of Carl and Deloris (Rentz) Hansen. He attended schools in Hayward and Albert Lea and was a member of First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Hanny proudly served in the United States Army from 1970-1972 as a Medic. He had two children from his first marriage and later divorced. In 1987, Hanny was united in marriage to Sheila (Hedum) Roell and together the couple shared 35 years.

A dedicated employee, James worked for Meade/Weyerhauser/ International Paper for 41 years before retiring in 2013. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed trapping, hunting, and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years, Sheila Hansen; two daughters, Cory (Jason) Schwarz and Nicole (Chad) Benner; two sons, Nicholas Hansen and Matthew Roell; six grandchildren, Tory, Kaysie, Joshua, Katelyn, Makayla and Olivia; a great0grandons, Kai; sisters-in-law, Vicky (Charles) Austin, Cheryl (Dave) McDonnell and Mary Beth Burlingame; a brother-in-law, Mike (Jessica) Hedum; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Carl and Deloris Hansen, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Axel and Marie Hansen; maternal grandparents, Frank and Anna Rentz; parents-in-law, Vic and Mary Nelson and Arthur Hedum; and a niece, Bridget Burlingame.

Upon Hanny’s request, a Celebration of Life service held at a later date.
