The funeral service for Gertrude M. Doppelhammer will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, October 29, 2004 at Concordia Lutheran Bear Lake Church. The Reverend Susan Wallager will officiate. Burial will be in Bear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service and one hour before the service at the church.



Gertrude died on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at St. John?s Lutheran Home, Albert Lea, MN. She was 91 years old.



Gertrude was born in Mansfield Township, Freeborn County, MN on April 24, 1913, the daughter of August and Bertha (Schneider) Olson. She was a graduate of Alden High School and attended Wells Normal School. She taught rural school for two years at Sharps Corner in Mansfield Township.



On August 28, 1940, Gertrude was united in marriage with Floyd Doppelhammer in Mansfield Lutheran Church. They farmed the Doppelhammer home farm which became a Century Farm. They retired from farming in 1974 and in 1984 they moved to Emmons. In 1998, Gertrude moved to Knutson Place and 2002 became a resident of St. John?s Nursing Home. They were members of Bear Lake Lutheran Church where Gertrude had been active in Ruth Circle, held many offices in WELCA, taught Sunday School and Bible School, and for 20 years had knit and crocheted afghans for the church bazaar.



Gertrude enjoyed traveling, knitting, crocheting, gardening and cooking. Her greatest joy was caring for and being with her family, especially her grandchildren.



Gertrude is survived by one son, Wayne (Sandy) Doppelhammer of Albert Lea; one daughter, Susan White of Annandale, VA; four grandchildren: Jill Doppelhammer of Albert Lea, Jay (Tiffany) Doppelhammer of Albert Lea, Stacy Doppelhammer of Albert Lea, Jeffrey White of Seattle, WA; one step great granddaughter, Kemma Bergland of Albert Lea; one brother, Wilford (Ruby) Olson of Emmons, MN; one sister-in-law, Elsa Olson of Illinois; many nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Floyd in 1998; son-in-law, George White; brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Loretta Olson.
