Florence Sigurdson

January 12, 1923 — December 10, 2023

Florence Lillian Sigurdson passed away on December 10, 2023, at her home in Albert Lea. Florence was born to Peter Christ Johannsen and Othilda (Elmer) Johannsen on January 12, 1923, in Wells, Minnesota. Florence was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Alden before the family settled on a farm near Clarks Grove.

After marrying James Sigurdson on December 10, 1941, at Central Freeborn Lutheran Church, Florence and James took over the running of the family farm. Florence led a fulfilling life as a hardworking farm wife and a devoted mother of three daughters. She dedicated herself to creating a warm and welcoming home for her family. Florence's caring nature manifested through her love for cooking, which she graciously extended to others. In addition to her culinary talents, Florence had a penchant for sewing and gardening.

After retirement, James and Florence moved to Albert Lea, where they spent their days enjoying time with friends and family. Playing cards became a treasured tradition within the family circle — an activity that brought laughter, friendly competition, and genuine moments of closeness. They also enjoyed taking fishing trips up North together, creating cherished memories.

Florence's memory will be cherished by her three loving daughters: Janice Peterson of Arizona, Karen (Darrel) Wolff of Albert Lea, and Julie (DuWayne) Graber of Albert Lea;  grandchildren: Darrick Peterson of Cuyuna, Tracy Haymaker of Pillager, Jody (Scott) Boyum of Glenville, Troy (Liz) Johnson of Albert Lea, Kirk (Anissa) Johnson of Freeborn, Michael (Sarah) Graber of Austin, and Laura Graber of Albert Lea; eight great-grandchildren: Brant Peterson, Jessica (Lon Drescher) Boyum, Tyler Boyum, Coltan Johnson, Dylan Johnson, Mason Johnson, Madison Graber, Isabelle Graber, and Luke Graber; her great-great-grandchildren: Alysia Boyum and Tristan Boyum; sister-in-law Beulah Sigurdson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter Christ and Othilda Johannsen; husband, James Sigurdson; siblings and their spouses, Orville (Aretta) Johannsen; Clifford (Wilma) Johannsen; Lois (Marvin) Stiehl; LaVonne (Burt) Lande; Shirley (David) Folven; and Ruby Rehdantz; and sons-in-law Jerry Johnson and Conrad Peterson.

Florence Lillian Sigurdson will forever be remembered as a caring soul who brightened the lives of everyone she encountered. Her warm smile, delicious meals, and devoted faith, and unwavering love will live on in the hearts of those that have known her.
