Duane Kenneth Odson, age 78, passed away peacefully at Mayo Clinic Mankato Hospital surrounded by family on May 1, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 23 at Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea with a visitation starting at 1PM. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery.
Duane was born in Buffalo Center Iowa on May 6, 1947, to Kenneth and Marian (Honstad) Odson. He grew up and received his schooling in Frost, Minnesota and graduated from Frost High School in 1965. After high school, he joined the United Stated Air Force and served in Vietnam flying in refueling planes. He served proudly and earned the rank of Staff Sargent (E5). When his service was completed, Duane moved to Albert Lea and began working for Wilson’s and later Farmstead until his retirement. After his retirement, He continued to live in Albert Lea until the time of his death.
In his free time, Duane enjoyed fishing, playing cards especially cribbage, watching football and basketball, and spending time with his family. He loved the many trips to Northern Minnesota with his family.
Duane is survived by his sisters Jeannie Boyer of Albert Lea, MN and Carolyn (Arlan) Kjarland of Stewartville, MN. Brother-in-law Larry Rygh of Albert Lea, MN; Nieces and nephews Michelle (Paul) Keefe, Mary (Devon) Boyer, Wayne Stinehart, Jason Kjarland, Julie (Dan) Stuart, Carrie (Jeff) Simpson, Kelly Kjarland, Michael (Agnus) Stinehart, Laura Kjarland, Samantha Kjarland, Gerald Shaffer, Walter Shaffer, Cory Shaffer, Derek (Jenna) Rygh, April Rygh, Christopher Rygh; Great nieces and nephews Mason, Taya, Myah and Thea Keefe, Isaac and Noah Olvera, Kenny, Marissa, Mykayla, Summer, Dominic and Jeannie Stinehart, Abby, Kimberly and Gracelynn Stinehart, Karrah, Kaitlyn, Kaydence and Kendrick Rygh; Ezra and Elias Rygh, Ryker Shaffer, Brandi Stinehart, Piper and Stella Boyer, Inga and Asah Kjarland; and several great-great nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Marian Odson. Sisters Judith Nelson, Linda (Jim) Radke and Connie Rygh. Brother-in-Law Lyle Boyer.
