REMEMBERING LOREN.......

Dr. Loren Minear, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN after a valiant battle with cancer. Doc was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away.



Dr. Minear was born to Margaret (Salisbury) and Forrest H. Minear on July 18, 1942, in Minneapolis, MN. The family moved to a farm in Glenville, MN in 1946. He graduated from Glenville High School in 1960 and immediately entered the Air Force after graduation. Upon discharge from the Air Force he joined the Albert Lea National Guard. He attended Austin Community College in 1966 and earned his AA degree. After graduation from Austin he was accepted to Veterinary Medical School at the University of Minnesota in St. Paul.



While he was a student at college, he worked on the kidney transplant team for Dr. Nigerian at the University. He worked on anti-rejection medication for transplant patients.



Dr. Minear was joined in marriage to Diane Marie Galvan on August 29, 1964 in Albert Lea.



Doc joined the Alden-Wells Veterinary practice after graduation in 1972. In 1975 the practice was expanded and the Skyline Vet Clinic in Albert Lea was opened, he became the sole owner of the Skyline Vet Clinic in 1979. In 1992, he opened a satellite clinic (Austin Animal Care Vet Clinic) where he practiced at both clinics until his illness.



Doc loved his clients and the animals that he worked with. He always said, "if you love your work, then it is not a job". His wife worked at his side at the Vet Clinic, along with his children and grandchildren. He said that he has had the best of both worlds at work. Dr. Minear was a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and a member of the American Legion.



He loved having backyard campouts, going to cattle shows with his grandchildren, sitting on the back porch with his wife and trips to Okoboji, IA with the whole family. The most important thing that he cared about was having his family close to him.



He is survived by his wife of 39 A� years, Diane; son, Jeff and is wife, Michelle and their children: Josh and Madisson of Glenville; daughter, April and her husband, Greg Olson and their children: Karissa and Karrin of Albert Lea; son, Dan and his wife, Kristy and their children: Gabriel and Angelena of Glenville; brother, Leonard J. and his wife, Joy of California, MO; brother, Larry G. and his wife, Pam of Emmons, MN; sisters-in-law, Rose Olson and her husband, Dennis, Judy Gasca and her husband, Lupe, Zoila Calderon and her husband, Reuban, Anita Mickelson; aunt, Angeline Overland. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.



Dr. Minear was preceded in death by his father, Forrest Hiles Minear; his mother, Margaret Minear Ericksen; stepfather, Nels Ericksen; sister-in-law, Orelia Cuellar; and brother-in-law, John Galvan, JR.



He will be sadly missed by his wife and loving family, clients, pets and by all that knew him. He was a kind and generous man.



Dad, we love you and you can take care of all those animals up there. They now have the best veterinarian in the world. You will always be in our hearts!!!
