"How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard"
-A.A. Milne
Delores Arlene Nasby, 90, of Stewartville, MN, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by love, on Tuesday, July 1. Delores was born on August 2, 1934, in Albert Lea, MN, to Clarence and Myrtle Christenson. She was raised on her family's farm in Freeborn County and graduated from Freeborn High School in 1952. An only child, Delores was especially close with her many cousins, whom she considered siblings. Growing up, she was active and spirited, spending summers showing pigs at the county fair and school years cheerleading. Acrobatic cheerleading was her favorite, and she continued to share those skills-and that joy-throughout her life.
In 1952 Delores married Donald Hultgren and later divorced. They had four children: Mark, Lenny, Lonny and Sherri. While raising her kids, she worked hard waitressing at night and caring for her children during the day. As they grew older, she continued in the restaurant business as she owned and managed the Skyline Supper Club. She retired after working many years as a school cook, a job she loved very much. In 1975, Delores married Vern Nasby and became a proud stepmother to Deb. Over the years, she remained active in her community, participating in various clubs and organizations. She was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea where she taught Sunday school for many years. She later joined Zion Lutheran Church when she moved to Stewartville and was involved in their bible study group. Delores loved being around people whether through her home economics club or cheering on her loved ones at sporting events.
Delores accomplished many things in her life, from being crowned homecoming queen to owning her own business, but her greatest joy was being a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She lived a life full of love, optimism and endless support for her family. Her smile could light up any room, and her unwavering positivity inspired all who knew her. True to her cheerleader roots, Delores rarely missed an opportunity to support her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren-whether it was a big game or a small recital, she was always there, cheering them on.
Delores was welcomed into heaven by her parents, Clarence and Myrtle Christenson; sons Mark and Lenny Hultgren; husband Vern Nasby; daughter-in-law Lou Hultgren; grandchildren Matthew and Michael Twohey; and many beloved family members and friends.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and will be dearly missed by her children, Lonny (Ann) Hultgren, Sherri (Ed) Twohey, Deb (Brian) Osowski and daughter-in-law, Julie Hultgren; grandchildren, Dominique Caspers, Josh (Erin) Hultgren, Sara (Tim) Blazek, Brett Hultgren, Clay (Tiffany) Hultgren, Theresa (Nick) Reps, Eric (Chelsie) Twohey, Timothy Twohey, Jessica Twohey, Jacob Twohey and Tony (Britni) Osowski; great-grandchildren, Braden Caspers; Diana and Danny Hultgren; Reese, Theo and Brooks Blazek; Landon Wise and Elijah Hultgren; Madelynn, Mason and Kennedy Reps; Emmie Twohey; and Presley Osowski.
Delores was a friend to everyone she met and poured love into every interaction. She was known for sending cards for every occasion and she always signed them, "My love and friendship always." Until we meet again, Delores - Our love and friendship always.
