David Olson, a beloved husband, brother, and friend, passed away May 8th, 2025, at the age of 80. He was born on October 6th, 1944, to Paul R. Olson and Alta S. Olson in San Diego, California. At the age of one, David's family moved to Hayward, Minnesota, where he would remain a devoted member of the community throughout his formative years.
David graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1962 and continued his education at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He ultimately earned his bachelor's degree from Mankato State University in Mankato, Minnesota. Following his passion for education, he taught for one year in South Dakota before pursuing a higher degree in law at South Dakota State University. He practiced law in Rapid City, South Dakota, before embarking on his next journey.
In his late 30's, David obtained a Master's in Finance and dedicated ten years of his career to City Bank in Las Vegas. He continued to grow professionally, eventually relocating to Kansas City, where he worked with City Bank until his retirement.
In June 2007, David married the love of his life, Alice James, and together they retired to Dunnellon, Florida, eventually settling in Lakewood Ranch.
David had two enduring passions: golf and engaging in spirited discussions and debates, particularly about politics. He was also a published author, with two notable books to his credit: " Repairing America's Democracy: A Proposed Constitutional Amendment" and "The Kilgallen Conspiracy." David's warmth, intellect, and passion for life will be remembered by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love and community that will continue to inspire those he touched.
David is survived by his devoted wife, Alice Olson; step-sons Aaron (Kristin) James and Kevin (Andrea) James; six step-grandchildren; his brother Bruce (Sue) Olson; his two nephews Travis Olson and Reid (Sarah) Olson; his great-nephews and niece Nic Olson, Alex Olson, Mike Olson and Maggie Olson; and a host of cousins, all of whom will miss him dearly.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Alta Olson; grandparents Red and Thea Olson, Halvor and Ida Hanson; sisters-in-law Judith Olson and Diane Olson; and cousins Dennis Olson, Carol Thorson, and Sherry Miller.
A memorial service celebrating David's life will be held on Thursday June 5th at Hayward Lutheran Church, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory. Following the service, a luncheon will be held where those who knew David can share in fellowship and remember a life well lived.
