Daniel Joseph (DJ) Kjos came into this world on March 17, 1988, and unexpectedly departed July 6, 2025, from his favorite place - the cabin.
DJ was a man of MANY words and said them LOUDLY. He could talk with anyone and often did. You always knew when DJ was around, a trait he carried with him from toddlerhood to the end.
DJ was an Albert Lea native and attended ALHS. You could find him either playing baseball, hunting, fishing or getting into a bit of mischief with his friends. He then went onto Rochester Community and Technical College where he would cross paths with the love of his life, Stacy, in 2009. Stacy initially gave him the ole “I need to wash my hair” dodge but he persisted and the two were married in 2016. They built their home just outside town where they loved to garden, host Viking football games, throw an occasional party or two and had been working on their passion project - Amyzing Blooms Fresh Cut Flowers.
In his early days DJ loved to break things and then fix them- as he grew older, he figured out how to get people to pay him for this (most of the time) and was the owner of Kjos Construction. For being such a loud man, he was incredibly humble about his talent and accomplishments, but you could feel his passion and sense of pride when he spoke of one of the many homes he was working on, some he was literally building from the ground up by hand.
DJ was the most loyal friend, always mindful of others, and would drop everything to help and guide anyone who was struggling. He would do anything for those he loved and not expect a thing in return. He was also a “tinker-er” and constantly working up some scheme of a plan. So not only would he help- he’d figure out how to do it creatively. This is best illustrated at the cabin - DJ’s happy place- where he spent most summer weekends in recent years upgrading an area or two before heading onto the lake with a couple of cocktails to fish alongside Stacy, and whoever else he could get to join him.
DJ was a beloved husband to Stacy- the love of his life. A dog dad to Harper, a close second love of his life. A cherished son. An adored brother. A fun uncle (a title he was most proud of). A godparent to oodles of friend’s children. And a friend. He continues his selfless legacy by being an organ donor.
DJ is preceded in death and will be welcomed by his grandparents Clarence and Anna Kjos & Frances and Harry Wilcox, uncle Daniel Wilcox, sister-in-law Amy Oliver and nephew Myles Oliver. He is survived by wife Stacy Kjos, parents Chuck and Julie Kjos, sister Katie (Mike) Clare, nephew Maddox Clare, brother Andrew (Cierra) Kjos, In-laws Ken & Theresa Hinnenkamp, Jake (Kristin) Hinnenkamp and Brian Oliver.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday July 24, 2025, from 4pm - 8pm at the Barn at Chapeau Shores. Come causal; we will have a remembrance ceremony at 6pm, please feel free to bring stories to share.
