Cody Scott Hanna, Sr.

March 26, 1983 — April 9, 2026

Cody Scott Hanna Sr., born March 26, 1983, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 20, 2026 at Bonnerup Funeral & Cremation Services. In his honor, we encourage all to wear jeans and Minnesota Viking attire to celebrate the things Cody loved and carry his spirit with us.

Cody was born in Forest City, Iowa and was the second born son of Stephanie and Kevin Hanna joining his older brother Matt. Cody grew up in Buffalo Center, IA before moving to Blue Earth, MN where he graduated high school in 2001. He was a proud and loving father to his son, CJ, who was truly the center of his world. Cody and CJ’s mother, Melissa Ewing were later married, and while they had lived separately in recent years, they shared important memories and a lasting connection through their family.

Cody shared a special and heartfelt bond with his grandparents, Roger and Dorie Hanna, holding them close to his heart throughout his life. Though Cody faced challenges, he was guided and shaped by the strong love and encouragement from his parents, who helped him find his way. Even on his hardest days, Cody’s faith remained an important source of strength and comfort, helping him navigate his deepest struggles. The love and support from his family meant the world to him and helped shape many of his fondest memories.

Cody loved cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, spending long days fishing, camping under the stars, participating in softball league, listening to music, and being surrounded by friends. But more than anything, Cody treasured the time he was able to spend CJ and Lamaya (step-daughter), those moments truly meant everything to him.

He had a natural gift for making people smile. His laugh was contagious, his spirit was warm, and he had a way of making everyone feel welcome and at ease. He will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, his big smile and the joy he brought into so many lives.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the laughter remembered and the love he gave so freely.

Cody is survived by his wife, Melissa; his son, CJ; his stepdaughter, Lamaya; his mother and stepmother, Stephanie and Deb Coates; his brother, Matt Hanna; his paternal grandmother, Dorie Hanna; his uncle, Scott (Jennie) Hanna; his sister and brother-in-law, Heather (Mick) Garcia; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cody was preceded in death by his father, Kevin Hanna; his paternal grandfather, Roger Hanna; and his maternal grandparents, Archie and Patricia Sampson.

No more battles left to fight, No more long and restless nights.

No more hurting, no more pain, No more struggling through the rain.

The weight you carried, now set free, Drifting soft, like the endless sea. No chains remain, no silent cries, Just gentle peace beyond the skies.

Reunited with your dad once more, Together on that quiet shore. Though life was hard, your soul can rest—

At last, unburdened, and at peace.
