Remembering the life of Charlotte J. Hovey…





The Memorial Service for Charlotte J. Hovey, of Albert Lea , will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 1, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church , Albert Lea. The Reverend Todd Walsh will officiate. Friends may visit with family from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. There will be no reviewal at the church. Private Interment will be held at Graceland Cemetery .



Charlotte was born on the 4 th of July in 1917, in Rock Lake , North Dakota , the daughter of Charles and Mary ( Wilkins) Jahnke. Charlotte graduated from Rock Lake High School and then from Jamestown College , ND . She came home weekends from college to establish and maintain financial books for the family’s general store.



Charlotte married Egil Hovey on June 10, 1941. They lived in Montana for a short time and then moved to Albert Lea in 1944. She enjoyed making a home for her family and also substitute teaching in area schools.



She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church , where she had been active in her church circle. She was a very active member of the Tuesday Literary Club for 64 years.



Charlotte loved to entertain and will be remembered for her seemingly effortless way of extending gracious hospitality.



Traveling was a great passion for her, and she and her husband visited many parts of the United States and also did some overseas travel.



. After they retired, Charlotte and Egil enjoyed making Arizona their winter home.



Even at 91, Charlotte kept her mind sharp as she was a computer whiz and challenged herself with Sudoku and crossword puzzles.



Charlotte died on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Good Samaritan Center.



Charlotte is survived by two children: Robert Hovey and special friend Thomas Healey of Long Lake, MN, Kathryn Hovey of Minneapolis; three sisters: Ila (Harvey) Coon of Buffalo, ND, Marrion “Billie” Walsh of Moorhead, MN, Norine (Lowell) Lussenden of Rock Lake, ND , and several nieces and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Egil, in 2005 and sister, Margaret Straley, in 2009.
