Annabelle Mae (Nicholson) Frazier, 93, passed away on Saturday May, 10th at St. John's with her daughter by her side, holding each other's hand. Annabelle went to heaven to be reunited with her siblings and parents whom she deeply missed, especially her twin sister Adeline
Annabelle was born on February 28th, 1932 to Alvin and Annabelle Nicholson in Mansfield Township, Freeborn County, on the family farm. She was one of two identical twins, but if you asked her, she'd tell you she was two minutes older than her twin sister Adeline.
Annabelle was a member of Trinity Lutheran. She graduated from Alden Highschool in 1949, and completed courses to be a licensed nursing home administrator. Annabelle married Elmo Frazier on October 12th, 1952. To this union one daughter was born.
Annabelle was a caregiver at heart, starting out on the farm as a young girl, helping care for the animals. As a young lady she went to work as a nurse aide for area care facilities. Eventually she owned and operated her own facility: Broadway Board and Care. She truly loved her work. It was a labor of love to her, and she operated Broadway Care for over fifty years. She cared for her residents as if they were family. She cooked meals from scratch, and individualized care for each resident. She wasn't only the administrator, she was the cook, housekeeper, caregiver, personal shopper, activity planner, and gardener. Whatever needed to be done, she did it! She was a fierce advocate for them! She actually put others' needs before her own.
In later years, she moved to St. John's Lutheran Community. She still always showed her concern for others as a resident herself. She was able to enjoy many activities there since Annabelle was used to always keeping busy. She enjoyed gardening, bingo, crafts, music, and church. On a daily basis Annabelle was tootalling or scooting in her wheelchair visiting her neighbors and the staff. She kept up on current events and relished in reading her newspapers and books. She always wanted coffee and sweet rolls, and to make sure there were enough for everyone. She loved anything nature, especially her birds and flowers, and the outdoors. She prided herself in being independent: learning to drive later in life, and becoming a business owner.
Annabelle genuinely loved people. Her top priority though was the love she had for her family. Linda and her shared an exceptionally close bond as mother and daughter, communicating and spending time together almost daily. For several years Linda and Annabelle operated Broadway Care together. She was especially proud of her grandsons and great-granddaughters. Blessed be her memory! She had a strong faith in God and wanted her family to know that. Her legacy of resilience, faith in God and love for others will live through her family.
Annabelle is preceded in death by her husband Elmo; her parents Alvin and Annabelle; her twin-sister Adeline; her sister Lorraine (Woody) Johnson; her brothers Howard (LeeAnn) Nicholson, Edwin (Ruth) Nicholson, and Kirwan; son-in-law Michael Waalkens; and nephew Daniel Howard Nicholson.
Annabelle is survived by her daughter Linda Kay Waalkens; grandsons Timothy (Barbara) Waalkens, Benjamin (Breann Rozeboom) Waalkens; great-granddaughters Paisley Annabelle, and Maryanna Shane; niece Julie (Burdette) Courrier; nephews Shawn (Amy Crane) Nicholson and their family, and Mark Nicholson and his family; extended family; and many friends.
Annabelle's family would like to thank all who loved her; those who were special to Annabelle and held Annabelle special to them. They would also like to send special thanks to the St. Croix Hospice and the St. John's Lutheran Community for their care, love and support.
