Alice B. Van Vooren, 91, passed away peacefully on November 16 at Thorne Crest Senior Living Community. She was born on July 18,1934 in Larchwood, Iowa to Mathias and Alma (Warborg) Underberg. In 1952, Alice married Bernard “Bernie” Van Vooren, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with devotion and adventure. They enjoyed many travels including Hawaii, Alaska, The Netherlands and Paris, France.
Alice was a member of St. Theodore’s Catholic Church. She was involved with the Church Women United, president of Gild 11, American Legion Auxiliary and volunteered regularly at the Catholic school assisting with lunch for almost 20 years. Alice played a vital role next to Bernie in their family business. She took great pride in her home and beautiful yard. Alice loved playing Bingo and card games especially with her sisters Janie and Rita. She will be remembered for her spirit, her devotion to family and her humor
She had four children: Rodney (Cindra) Van Vooren, Mark (Sue) Van Vooren, Kevin (Karen) Van Vooren, and Becky Knipping (deceased). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren—Kris (Dominic) Andrist, Katie Rendler, Kelly Van Vooren, Carla Van Vooren, Alex (Aileen) Van Vooren, Ben (Courtney) Van Vooren, and Laura (Mark) Bellinger—and her great-grandchildren: Owen, Fate, Nevaeh, Ella, Liam, Amelia, Madelyn and Mary Alice. She is served by her husband of almost 73 years, Bernie, children/grandchildren and her sisters Rita Kaffar, Jane Hoffman and Joyce Townsend.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents Matt and Alma Underberg, her daughter, Becky; siblings: Matthew Underberg, Tony Underberg, Donald Underberg, and Mary Jean Ziener.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 20 at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Father Kurt Farrell will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am Luncheon will follow at Marian Hall. Interment will be in St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery. Memorials preferred to St. Theodore Catholic School.
