A graveside service for Quentin E. Matson will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 1, 2019 at Hillcrest Cemetery, with Chaplain Don Malinksy officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Albert Lea Area Veterans Organizations. There will be a Celebration Of Life at the American Legion from 2 – 4 PM following the graveside service. Family and friends are invited to come share stories and memories of Quentin.
Quentin passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at his home in Albert Lea. He was 73 years old.
Quentin Erwin Matson was born on July 2, 1946 in Albert Lea, MN to Roy and Lola (Savage) Matson. He attended country school near Hayward, MN and went to Albert Lea High School. At the age of 17, Quentin enlisted in the United States Navy. He was aboard the USS Valley Forge. Quentin served our country for four years until his honorable discharge.
On May 29, 1971, he was united in marriage to Patricia (Spilde) in Hayward, MN. To this union, three children were born. The couple called Albert Lea home.
Quentin spent most of his career as a truck driver. He started out working for his father at Matson Trucking, and was most recently driving truck for Bosshart Trucking until his retirement at the age of 62. He was a member of the American Legion and DAV. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with family and friends, and being outdoors. He enjoyed going to his children’s sporting events. Quentin had a tight knit group of friends, always staying close to his very good friends Virgil, Jim, and Ronnie. In these last few years, Quentin gained a special bond with his youngest son, Roy, and enjoyed spending quality time with him.
He is preceded in death by both parents, Roy and Lola Matson; brothers, Darryl Matson and Richard Matson; and a sister in-law, Gwen Matson.
Quentin will be missed by his wife of 48 years, Pat Matson; children, Justin (Jamie) Matson, Amber (Jeremy Jenson) Matson, and Roy Matson; grandchildren, Mariah (Jamerro), Brittney, Jake, Kayden, Joey, and Jenna; great-grandchildren, Laylah and Trayjen; siblings, Dale (Marilyn), Eugene (Charlotte), Roy, Greg (Carolyn), and Lorelei (Tom); sisters in-law, Dee Matson and Janice Matson; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Albert Lea American Legion or the DAV Minnesota Office at 20 West 12 Street, 3rd Floor St. Paul, MN 55155.
