Catherine A (Staloch) Zimney

April 10, 1917 ~ July 31, 2019 (age 102)

Funeral Services for Catherine A. Zimney, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 10, at St. Theodore’s Catholic Church in Albert Lea, MN. The Reverend Kurt Farrell will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 on Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, with a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. Visitation will continue one hour before the services at the church. 

Catherine died peacefully on Wednesday, July 31 at her home.  She was 102. She was born on April 10, 1917, in Wells, Minnesota, the daughter of Joseph C. and Minnie M. (Schultz) Staloch. Following high school graduation she went on to complete teachers training.  Catherine taught country school for a few years. On June 23, 1941, Catherine was united in marriage to Tony Zimney at St. Casimir’s Church in Wells. The couple lived in St. Louis, MO, for a short time, then on the Zimney family farm in North Dakota, before moving to Albert Lea in 1945. After raising 10 children, she remained devoted to them and their families. A “farm girl” at heart, Catherine loved drives in the country. She enjoyed long walks and playing cards with family and friends. She was an avid reader and was passionate about keeping up with the news, especially political happenings.

Catherine will be greatly missed by her  children: Ray (Judy), Bozeman, MT, Mary, Albert Lea, MN, Bob, Stillwater, MN, David (Elaine), Cummings, GA, Len (Kathryn), Edina, MN, Mardy (Steve), Las Cruces, NM, Margaret (Jamie), Gibson, B.C., Catherine (Ray), Glenwood Springs, CO, Dorothy, Albert Lea, MN,  Theresa (Tom), Louisville, CO; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren;  her brother Louie Staloch, Easton, MN, and 38 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 2001 and 5 siblings.

Catherine was very warm hearted and caring. Her life was focused on strong faith and family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Annunciation House in El Paso, Texas. They work with migrants/homeless and economically vulnerable people at the border.
