Remembering the life of Virginia L. Andersen...



The Funeral Service for Virginia L. Andersen, of ThorneCrest Retirement Center,

Health Care Wing, Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, February 17,

2004 at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Pastor Dan Baker will officiate. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m.-7:00p.m. Monday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before the service at the church.



Virginia died at ThorneCrest on February 14, 2004, Valentines Day, ending the life of a woman with a big heart, who lovingly cared for her family, friends and patients. She was 87.



She was born on December 2, 1916, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Selmer and Nina

(Carlson) Ness.

Virginia graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1934.

She worked for Ben Franklin for a short time and then studied nursing in

New York City and graduated from Naeve School of Nursing in 1945.

She taught nursing at Naeve Hospital and then was O.R. nurse, O.R. supervisor,

and later first floor coordinater at Naeve Hospital for many years.

She was instrumental in helping with the planning of the "old" new Naeve Hospital building.

Virginia was united in marriage to Albert "Abbey" E. Andersen on July 22, 1951 in Albert Lea.

Throughout her life she had lived in Albert Lea, Clarks Grove, Green Bay, WI., and then returned to make Albert Lea her home.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church where she was a member of the

Circle #35, was a Sunday School Teacher and enjoyed helping with Holidays Ahead.

She was a R.E.A.C.H. leader, served on the Freeborn County Mental Health Advisory Board, Naeve Hospital Alumni and Nurses Club and Interstate Sewing Club. She enjoyed baking, sewing, crafts, collecting angels and going to and having

garage sales. Her grandchildren Shane and Erin were precious to her.

She is survived by a daughter Marilee and her husband Nick Gustitus of Albert Lea

and their children Shane of Mankato and Erin of Albert Lea; son Ron Andersen of Austin, sister-in-law Jean Ness of Winnebago, MN., and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.



She was preceded in death by her parents Selmer and Nina, husband Albert "Abbey" Andersen in 1996, step-mother Hattie Ness, brothers Ken and Robert Ness,

sisters-in-law Helen Olson and Esther Mahlum; brothers-in-law Rev. Arnold Andersen, Dr. Ray Andersen, nieces Helen "Tutti" Neumann, Mary Mahlum,

nephew Raymond Andersen.



Virginia had touches so many lives, and saw the good in everyone. She always, always, had a smile that twinkled when she saw you---all of us are going to miss that twinkle.
