Obituary: Ruth Rugroden



The funeral service for Ruth Margretta Rugroden of New Richland, Minnesota was held Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Richland. Pastor Paul Andree officiated. Interment was in St. Olaf Cemetery.



Ruth died Friday, March 12, 2004 at the New Richland Care Center where she had been a resident for 12 years. She was 88 years old.



Ruth was born April 8, 1915 at Graettinger, Iowa to Otto and Ellen Tenneson. She went to elementary school at Winnabago, Minnesota and graduated from New Richland High School in 1933. Ruth was baptized by Reverend Wigdahl at Ruthven, Iowa and confirmed by Rev. J. C. Walledom in 1930. Ruth was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She married Milford Rugroden on October 2, 1935. They moved to New Richland in 1950. Ruth worked for the Sunde-Romine grocery store. She was the District President of WELCA for 4 years. She taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and sang in a grandmother quartet in New Richland. Ruth served on the Waseca County Welfare Board and organized Telecare in New Richland. She was Volunteer of the Year in 1988 for the State of Minnesota. Ruth was chairperson for the City of New Richland and wrote and directed the New Richland Church and Centennial Program. She served on the St. Olaf Cemetery Board. Ruth enjoyed doing crafts, making quilts and making and decorating cakes.



Ruth is survived by her two children: Robert Rugroden and his wife Avis of New Richland; Marilyn Konold and her husband Pearce of Centralia, Illinois; six grandchildren: Rick Rugroden and his wife Neva of Waseca, Randy Rugroden and his wife Karen of Albert Lea, Ryan Rugroden of Holmen, Wisconsin, Kari Peterson and her husband Ray of Illinois, Kevin and his wife Lori Konold of White Bear Lake, MN and Kyle Konold of Las Vegas; four great grandchildren; sister: Dorothy Danielson and her husband Ed of Des Moines, Iowa.



Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Milford; two brothers; a sister and a great grandchild.
