Obituary: Norris Clinton Hamborg



The funeral service for Norris Clinton Hamborg of Albert Lea, Minnesota will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 11, 2004 at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. Pastor Reggie Klindworth and Pastor Daphne Hamborg, his niece, will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded.



Norris died Monday, March 8, 2004 at his home. He was 80 years old.



Norris was born March 30, 1923 in Henning, Minnesota to Martin and Selma (Hovland) Hamborg. He was confirmed at Lunder Lutheran Church. He joined First Lutheran Church of Albert Lea in 1939 and served as an usher and as a member of the building commission for many years. Norris attended school through the eighth grade and then helped on the family farm. He married Shirley Ann Cooling on May 13, 1951 at Hayward, Minnesota. Norris worked at Western Grocery, worked as a farmhand for Orville Winjum and worked as a carpenter for Paul Olson, Anderson Construction, Dick Dickema Construction and Hanson Zimney Construction. Norris loved wood working. Norris was a veteran of WWII and served in the United States Navy at Okinawa as a sea bee. Norris was a member of the Sons of Norway, American Legion, VFW, Elks and Eagles. He enjoyed horses, especially the big work horses. He spent his mornings with the guys at Donut Hut drinking coffee and Friday and Saturday nights dancing at the Eagles. He enjoyed going to his trailer at the lake and fishing while Shirley was alive. He also enjoyed the Minnesota Twins, working in his church, visiting with neighbors and spending time with his family.



Norris is survived by his daughter: Jeanne Herman and her husband Richard of Glenville; son: Mark Hamborg and his wife Diane of Park Rapids; grandchildren: Krista Honsey and her husband Mike of Des Moines, Ia; Lisa Herman and special friend, Chad Peterson of Albert Lea; Kelly Hamborg of St. Paul, Casey Hamborg and special friend Jenny, of Owatonna; Katie Hamborg; stepson: Greg Lincoln and his wife Carma; great grandson Thurman Lincoln; sister: Mabel Weckwerth and her husband Bernard of Albert Lea; brother:Millard Hamborg and his wife Phyllis of Albert Lea; sister-in-laws: Dorothy Hamborg of Albert Lea, Marlys Minnich and her husband Max of Austin, Deanna Yunker and her husband Larry of Austin and Pat Peters and her husband Dale of Austin.; and many nieces and nephews, special friend Ruth Berg of Emmons, Minnesota; special neighbors: Gloria and Terry Branden of Albert Lea.



Norris was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Selma; wife Shirley, brother: Roy; sister Dorothy Kermes and her husband George; and sister: Gladys Hamborg.



Memorials are preferred to Peace and Power of First Lutheran Church of Albert Lea.



Norris will be sadly missed by his family and friends and all that knew him.
