The memorial service for Regional Artist Marticia (Tish) Rachel Bailey will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 22, 2005 at the First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea. Pastor Dwight Netzer will officiate.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2005 from 4 until 10 at her home at 2124 West Richway in Albert Lea.

Marticia (Tish) Rachel Bailey died August 19 at age 89 in her home with her son John and daughter Carli at her side. Tish was born in Denver Colorado on October 2, 1915 to Fred and Rachel Davis. She grew up in Malvern, Iowa, attended girls prep school and college at Baylor University in Texas. She continued her education at Iowa State in Ames where she received a B.S. in Home Economics. After graduation she was employed as a home economist for Interstate Power Company in Albert Lea. On November 6, 1942 in Omaha, Nebraska she was joined in marriage to Moreau Bailey. During WW II, Tish was employed as an electrical engineering assistant for the General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York. She returned to Albert Lea after the war where she worked for many years side by side with her husband Moreau at Bailey Electric.

Tish was an excellent seamstress and milliner. She owned Tish?s Shop which was located in the Hotel Albert. She sewed for weddings and other special occasions. Tish could talk to someone about the style of clothing that the person wished and she had the talent to cut and design free hand without using a pattern. Her best customers were hard to fit women who wanted to look nice. She went on to receive a bachelor degree in science and her master?s degree in art from Mankato State University. She taught school for several years in Northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota. She later worked for Dayton/Hudson in Rochester Minnesota as an interior designer until her retirement at age 75. During her 80?s she was an active student studying art at Mankato State University. She attended all the Mankato State football home games while enrolled at the school. Tish was an excellent equestrian, traveled widely, excellent in the culinary arts and encouraged young artists. She is survived by son, John Bailey, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Carli Bailey Walbert, Peoria Illinois; grandson Billy Boswell, Minneapolis; granddaughter, Rachel Collier, Peoria, Illinois and great granddaughter Selena Boswell, Peoria, Illinois.

Tish was preceded in death by her parents and husband.





In lieu of flowers all memorials will be donated to the local chapter of the American Association of University Women scholarship fund.
