Obituary for Lorie M. Swenson
The funeral service for Lorie Margit Swenson will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 14, 2003, at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, rural Ellendale, MN. The Reverend Jack Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Pontoppidan Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Thursday at Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland and one hour before the service at the church.
Lorie died on Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at Prairie Manor Nursing Home in Blooming Prairie, MN where she had been since September, 2003. She was 87 years old.
Lorie was born in Bucyrus, ND on July 28, 1916, the daughter of Sigurd and Malla (Sather) Seljeseth. She was baptized and confirmed at North Grand Lutheran Church, Bucyrus, ND. She was a graduate of Hettinger High School, Hettinger, ND.
Lorie moved to the New Richland area in 1934, and met David Swenson. They were married on September 17, 1938 at the Lutheran Pasonage in New Richland, MN. They were members of Pontoppidan Lutheran Church where Lorie had been active in church choir, ladies aid and circle, quilting, mission group, and Sunday School and Bible School teacher. They farmed near Lemond, MN. Following the death of David in 1998, Lorie moved to the Royal Villa apartments in New Richland.
Lorie was a member of the Albert Lea Sons of Norway. She was very musical and enjoyed playing piano, organ and guitar. She also had a "green thumb" and had flower gardens and many indoor plants. Her greatest love was spending time with her grandchildren.
Lorie is survived by one son, Duane and his wife, Donna of Waseca, MN; three grandchildren: Martha (Isaac) Kofstad of New Richland, MN, Jodi Swenson and her special friend, Mike Johnson of Duluth, MN, Trever Swenson of Waseca, MN; two great grandchildren: William and Grace Kofstad of New Richland, MN; two sisters: Edna Olstad of New Richland, MN and Inga (Jerry) Carey of Mankato, MN; one brother, Melvin Seljeseth of Owatonna, MN; many nieces and nephews.
Lorie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David in 1998; son, Arthur Swenson; brother, Karl Seljeseth; sister, Palma Abelson.
