Judy Abrego

Funeral services for Judith M. Abrego will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 9, 2015 at Ascension Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Reverend Mark Boorsma will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 PM on Sunday at the Bonnerup Funeral Chapel, Albert Lea, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Lakewood Cemetery.

Judy passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, November 3, 2015. She was 70 years old.

Judith Marie (Sorenson) Abrego was born on March 2, 1945 to Alvin and Gertrude (Bergeson) Sorenson, in Albert Lea, MN. She attended and graduated from Albert Lea High School. She later graduated from the Mankato Business College, with a degree in accounting. She began her career at Wilson Foods in the accounting department, and continued working there until her retirement in 2001. She also was the owner of Abrego's Café for 16 years.

On July 4, 1987, she was united in marriage to Patrick L. Abrego. The couple has lived in Glen Rose, TX, Glenville, MN, and most recently Albert Lea. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. In her free time, Judy's hobbies include: Norwegian rosemaling, hardanger, sewing, making American Girl doll clothes, and wood carving. She enjoyed the friends at the Farmers Market, where she and Pat sold their baked goods, lefse, wood carvings, and doll clothes. Most of all, she found comfort in knowing that her husband and family loved her dearly.

She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Patrick Abrego; children, Elly Chicos, Derek (Stacy) Williams, Patty Abrego, Larry Abrego, and Paul Abrego; grandchildren, Andraya Abrego, Tyler Borwege, Zac Chicos, Kacy Borwege, and Spencer Chicos; brother, Rick (Andi) Sorenson; brothers in-law, David (Rosie) Abrego, Tony Abrego, Anselmo Fernandez, and Vincent Muniz; sisters in-law, Millie Abrego, Francis Wilborn, Rosie Sanchez, Anne Sorenson, Rosario Abrego, Lora Sorenson, Sandy Abrego, and Terry Vanderwoude.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helen Mattick, brother, David Sorenson; brothers in-law, Timothy Abrego, Moses Abrego, John Abrego, Marian Abrego, and Sonny Abrego; sisters in-law, Gloria Fernandez, Dora Muniz, and Elizabeth Abrego.
