Irene died on Monday, October 21, 2013 at Thorne Crest Retirement Community in Albert Lea.
She was 93 years old.
Irene was born on April 4, 1920, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Edwin and Christine
(Dahl) Ingvaldson. She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1938, completed Business College at Mankato Commercial College and soon began her banking career at First National Bank, Albert Lea.
Irene was united in marriage to Herman T. Myre on February 27, 1945. Shortly after marriage, Irene and Herm moved to California, where she worked at Security First National Bank. After one year, they returned to Albert Lea, where the couple started Myre Paint and Hardware. Irene continued her career as a teller at Freeborn Bank.
Irene was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church where she served on the Altar Guild and
was active in Caring and Sharing. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Irene was a member of the American Legion, Elks, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Naeve Hospital Auxiliary, and Star Dusters Dance Club. Irene enjoyed social activities like bridge club, bowling, dancing, golf and fishing. She also liked to travel, as Irene and Herm took many trips to Hawaii, and spent their winters in Texas.
She was a very caring and loving woman. Although Irene was very proud of her Norwegian heritage, the most important thing to her was her family. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was honored to be called "Grandma Great" by her great-grandchildren.
Irene is survived by her son Steven (Susan) Myre of Portland, OR, her daughter Nancy (Charles) Cornish of Cedar Falls, IA; grandchildren: Nicole (Kory) Mrazek, of Albert Lea, Jarrod Jensen of Oconomowoc, WI, Janelle (Cory) Vagt of Lake City, MN, Elizabeth Myre of Providence, RI, and Laura (Boon) Parrett, of Portland, OR; great grandchildren, Ahnika Johnson of Albert Lea, Brendan and Tyler Vagt of Lake City, MN, Isla Parrett, of Portland, OR; sisters: Donna (Arthur) Ludtke of Albert Lea, Jennelly (Robert) Groe of Minneapolis, and Karen (Thomas) Hovde of Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law: Norma Ingvaldson of Albert Lea, and many nieces and nephews.
Although Irene will be sorely missed by her loved ones on earth, she will be welcomed to heaven by her parents, Edwin and Christine; husband, Herman; brother Elwood; brothers-in-law, Charles Myre and Wilfred Knudsen and sisters-in-law, Jane Myre and Ruby Knudtson.
The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Thorne Crest and Mayo Clinic Health Systems Albert Lea Hospice for the exceptional compassion shown towards Irene.
