Henry was born in Milaca County , Minnesota on May 6, 1917 , the son of John and Willamina (Scheffer) Ravenhorst. His family moved to Hollandale when he was 11 years old, where he attended a small country school. At a young age he started his life’s work as a vegetable farmer in Hollandale, raising potatoes, onions, sugar beets and soybeans. When he was 19 years old, he met Lanora Cole. And, on June 19, 1941 , they were married at Henry's parents home. Lanora was the “love of his life,” and they farmed together and raised their three children Roger, Jackie and Carolyn. Rooted in his faith, he was a 67 year member of the Hollandale Reformed Church. He was also a lifetime supporter of the World Home Bible League and Bible Society ministries, which place God’s Word into the hands of those who often have no other source of spiritual nourishment.

He also enjoyed fishing and traveling with his family. Henry and Lanora were blessed to have had the opportunity to spend 22 winters in Crystal Beach, Fla.

Henry deeply loved his wife and family, and for him, the happiest and most cherished times were when they were all together.

Henry will be lovingly missed by his wife of 67 years Lanora, daughters: Jackie and her husband Jake Jacobusse and Carolyn and her husband Rick Veldman, all of Hollandale; daughter-in-law Murielle Boucher-Ravenhorst of Quebec, Canada, grandchildren: Hugo and Chloe Ravenhorst, Jason (Kara) Jacobusse, JoAnn Jacobusse, Jennifer (Robert) Modderman, Stephanie and Maggie Veldman ; great grandchildren Lydia, Simon, Eli and Thomas Jacobusse and Elizabeth Modderman; sisters: Alice Muilenburg, Ina Mae Parr and Mildred Lunde.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Roger, two brothers John and Herman Ravenhorst and sister Johanna.

Henry’s legacy to his family was his deep and abiding faith in Christ Jesus. He was a gentle and kind husband, dad, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed.

“One whom I love has left me.

His journey was designed to take him past the curtain and I was left behind. But though the tears still threaten I know my grief will cease,

for I have the Father’s promise of comfort and of peace.

The needs of my tomorrows are covered by his care,

and heaven is much nearer for I have treasure there” from the Epistle
