Gladys was born on March 21, 1924 to Theodore and Regina Gullord in Bricelyn, MN. On June 3, 1947 she was united in marriage to Robert "Rosie" Gries at her parent's home in Bricelyn. They made their home in Kiester.
Gladys lived for her family. She was a wonderful seamstress and worked for the Kiester Drycleaners doing alterations for many years. She was a wonderful baker and was known for many of her "goodies" [chocolate chip cookies, spritz cookies, gingersnap cookies and doughnuts]. She always took care of others before herself. She belonged to a bowling league for many years and worked at the library in Kiester. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, WELCA and the American Legion Auxilliary.
Survivors include her children, Kathy Gries of Rochester, Joni Cather and her husband Bruce of Albert Lea, her grandson Brady Cather and his fiance' Michelle Fromm of Rochester, her sister Roselyn Sauke of Kiester, her nieces and nephews, Julie Savick, Kimberly Sauke, Chuck Sauke, Scott Sauke, Deb Ostrem, Steven Gullord, Greg Gullord, Sharon Mandel and Patricia Hanson and many great nieces and nephews. Special friends, Hazel Sampson and Clair and Sylvia Hagen.
Gladys was preceeded in death by her parents, her husband Robert in 1985, and her son Reginald in infancy. She was also preceeded in death by siblings Kenneth, Earl, Ward, Helen, Arlette, Velma, Aldean and Stanley.
The family wishes to thank the caring and dedicated staff on Station 3 at Good Samaritan Society, the Mayo Health System Hospice staff, Dr. Vocal for his conscientious medical care and Steve Merfeld and the caring staff of Bonnerup Funeral Home. The family also wants to thank Pastor Katie and former neighbors and friends who stopped by or sent a kind note. Mom enjoyed them all.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Gladys always had the coffee pot on and some "goodies" she had just baked for family or friends stopping by. She was always willing to help where needed and cared for others. She was the best mom and grandma in the world.
