Geraldine Sorenson

April 23, 1932 — February 24, 2015

A memorial service for Geraldine J. Sorenson will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Reverend Janet White will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM on Friday at the Bonnerup Funeral Chapel, Albert Lea and will continue at 10 AM until the time of the service on Saturday. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Geraldine passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at her home. She was 82 years old.
Geraldine was born on April 23, 1932 to Gilmen G. and Selma I. (Folken) Johnson in Thompson, IA. She attended and graduated from Emmons High School. On September 26, 1953, Geraldine was united in marriage to Dwayne R. Sorenson in Emmons, MN. To this union, three children were born.
Geraldine worked as a Nurse's Aide in Albert Lea for eight years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She volunteered her time and talent by crocheting afghans that were donated to raise money for the Eagles Cancer Telethon. She was a member of the Eagles Club. Geraldine was a member of the Moose Club Choir for a period of time. She enjoyed camping, crocheting, crafts, family gatherings, spending time with her grandchildren, and watching sports, where she would cheer on the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, Gophers and Timberwolves.
Geraldine is preceded in death by her parents, Gilmen and Selma; husband, Dwayne Sorenson; and a brother who died in infancy, LeRoy Johnson; and brothers and sisters in-law, Rodger (Vivian) Sorenson, and Ed (Kathleen) Madson.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three children, Mark (Diane) Sorenson of Hollandale, Kris (Kenny) Hanson of Albert Lea, and Karen (Doug Shultz) Gillespie of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Adam (Nicole) Hanson of St. Peter, Brady Hanson of Minneapolis, Joslin (Nick) Zamora of Albert Lea, and Michelle (Tom) Huffman of Clear Lake, MN; a brother, Donovan (Pat) Johnson of Albert Lea; great-grandchildren, Matthew, and Emily Huffman, and Mya Zamora; brother and sister in-law, Don (Mary) Sorenson; as well as many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives.
The family deeply appreciates and wants to thank all the family, hospice, Dr. Grzybowski, all generations, Pastor White and church members, and Senior Court friends for their thoughts, prayers, visits and great care. It meant so much to Geri and her family. Blessed be her memory.
