Georgia was born on March 28, 1916 to Arthur and Grace (Clemmentson) Godtland, in Lake Mills, IA. She attended various country schools until the 8th grade, after which she stayed home to help her family. Georgia was baptized at Lime Creek Lutheran Church by The Rev. H. Engebretson, and confirmed at Deer Creek Valley by The Rev. Hans Fosness.
Georgia was united in marriage to Arnold Johnson on September 6, 1935, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Mason City, IA. To this union, three children were born: A. Gordon, Bev, and Gerald. The couple moved to Minneapolis in 1959, so Arnold could work at the VA hospital. In 1977, much to Georgia's joy, the family moved back to Albert Lea. Georgia spent her life as a caretaker. She took care of her brothers and sisters, children, and her parents when they aged. In her free time, she liked to sew and embroider.
She is survived by her children, A. Gordon (Marie Herrenschmidt) Johnson, and Bev (Wes) Evans; daughters in-law, Karen (Darrel) Wolff; grandchildren, Dawn (John) Schindler, Eric (Margarita) Johnson, Tanya (Andrew) Kirk, Mija (Donny) Hood, Brenda (Quentin) Fisher, Angela (Jeff) Carson, Jodi (Scott) Boyum, Troy (Liz) Johnson and Kirk (Anissa) Johnson; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Alex Schindler, Zane, Collin and Logan Johnson, Valerie, Jacob and Stephanie Kirk, Tyler and Jared Stapleton, Amanda Fisher-Werner and Allison Fisher, Courtney, Chelsey and Cayley Carson, Jessica and Tyler Boyum, Coltan Johnson, and Dylan and Mason Johnson; great-great-grandchildren, Jace Johnson, Aelyse, Ava and Annyka Werner, and Alysia Boyum; siblings, LuVerne Godtland, Ronald (Karen) Godtland, and Lois Undahl; sisters in-law, Jeannette Godtland, Ollie Godtland, and Sandra Godtland; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
Georgia is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; son, Gerald; siblings, Glenn, Donald Ellsworth, Arthur Jr. Ruth Whities, Richard, Raymond "Buddy", and Arlene Godtland in infancy; brothers and sisters in-law, Eleanor Godtland, Dorothy Godtland, DeVerne Undahl, Jeanie Godtland, and Dale Whities; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Godtland Scholarship Fund at Grace Lutheran Church.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all. God Bless her memory.
