The Funeral Service for Frieda Mehus, of
Albert Lea
, formerly of rural
Austin
, will be held at 3:30 P.M. on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in
Belmond
,
Iowa
.
Interment will be in St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will
be from 5-7 on Friday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, 2210 East Main,
Albert Lea
, and one hour before the service at the church. Frieda was born on July 19, 1923, at home west of
Kanawha
,
Iowa
the daughter of Ben and Annie (Hiller) Lamfer.
She was one of 14 children in the Lamfer family which included 5 brothers and 9 sisters.
She attended rural country school just south of Kanawha.
Frieda was united in marriage to Duane Mehus in July 3, 1941. They lived and farmed near Goodell, Messervey, Vinge and
Leland
,
Iowa
until 1956 when they moved and farmed near Myrtle, MN until retiring.
Frieda died on Monday, August 16, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Home, Albert Lea.
She was 87.
She is survived by her son Harold Mehus and his wife Kathy of Glenville, MN,
daughter Janice Thompson of Albert Lea, three grandchildren: James Mehus (Elena) and children Sasha, Roma, and Anthony of Albert Lea, Oscar Mehus and children Tristan and Tiffany and Steven Thompson of Minneapolis, MN;
two sisters Gertrude Paulson and Alice Lamfers;
brother Benard Lamfers,
sister-in-law Phyllis Lamfers and 54 nieces and nephews, and all the wonderful people at St. John's Lutheran Home who gave her such tender loving care.
Frieda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Duane, son-in-law Loren Thompson, brothers and sisters: Seabo Lamfers, Grace Schoolcraft, Carrie Busemann, Marie Lamfers in infancy, Marion Lamfers, Kasper Lamfers Oafae Lamfers, Bernie Lamfers,
Lena
Dove, Jennie Crenhow and Sadie Dirks.
