Elroy Kast

Funeral services for Elroy S. Kast of Albert Lea , MN , will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 28, 2009 at the Grace Lutheran Church of Albert Lea. Pastor Todd Walsh will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 4 until 7 pm at the Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St Aidens Cemetery, rural Albert Lea , MN . Military honors will be accorded by the Albert Lea Area Veterans Groups.

Mr. Kast died Monday evening, February 23, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis . He was 68 years of age.

Elroy was born May 7, 1940 in Albert Lea , MN , the son of Earl and Imogene (Mickelson) Kast. He graduated from Albert Lea High School and the Albert Lea Vo- Tech. On December 7, 1963 he was united in marriage to Janet Sorenson.

Elroy served in the US Navy and after his discharge was employed by Wilson and Co. in Albert Lea. He also spent time working for Albert Lea Seamless Gutters and Waste Management.

Elroy was a member of the American Legion and the VFW in Albert Lea and the AA for over 40 years sponsoring many members over the years. He was an active member of Green Lea Golf Course and scored a hole in one earlier in his life. He enjoyed drawing and sketching, bow hunting and meeting his friends for coffee at Hy Vee.

Elroy was a very strong and proud man who loved being with his friends and family.

Elroy is survived by his special friend Faye Garbina of Albert Lea, MN, children; Scott and his wife Tricia Kast of Freeborn, MN, Michelle and her husband Craig Stallkamp of Bricelyn, MN, Karen and her husband Chad Adams of Byron, MN, Lisa and her husband Aaron Haider of Champlin, MN, Nicole and her husband Robert Nipper of Byron, MN. Grandchildren include; Crystal, Nicholas, Alex, Daniel, Rebecca, Shelby, Paige, sawyer, Joseph, Kelsea, Ethan, Braeden, Riley, Justin and Isabelle. Also surviving are two sisters; Barbara (Tom) Guiney of Albert Lea, MN, Carol (Steve) Manuel of Albert Lea, MN, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elroy was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janet in 1990 and one brother Jerome.
